hello, i am an a&p mechanic at andrews afb in maryland. i keep three 560 encore's up to snuff for the marines. as the topic title states i'm looking for advice/tips on keeping the leading edges and engine inlet metal looking new. i've used flitz and another brand for polishing, but it kills me to rub the wings down every night for an hour after all of the bug smashing associated with 5-10 hours of flight, not to mention that aesthetics are low on the list with a crunched timeframe. insight would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance.

We have had good results by using aluminum poilsh(smells like flitz) and a Cyclo buffer. We usually buff the wings once a month. I have never been able to find out where to get that T-41 stuff, which is stated in the maintenance manual.
About the bugs: Have you tried soaking the bugs for a few minutes by using a microfiber cleaning cloth sturated with lots of water? When I say a lot, I mean it has to be soaked in a bucket and dripping all over. After the bugs have been soaked for a while, simply wipe them off with the same cloth. The cloth I use is microfiber frottee cleaning cloth and looks like a bath towel (just smaller). There are other types of microfiber cleaning cloth available, but the frottee ones do a better job. Old ones can be used as polishing rags. |
