Hello everyone,

This seems to be a great group of experts here. Can anyone tell me if I'm being over cautious? I am purchasing a 501SP that just had Phase 1-4 performed in January. The Phase 5 is due now but has been extended for two months.

The seller is giving me a good deal but on an "as is" basis. He doesn't want me to do the Phase 5 and open up his airplane and walk away sticking him with a bunch of squawks.

The shop that did the Phase 1-4 said there was minimal work when they did that inspection. My question is should I take the risk myself and buy the airplane "as is" and do the Phase 5 after taking ownership.

Is there a lot more to the Phase 5 that can be uncovered that would sink me?

This will be my first jet. Thanks.

Ericzee,

I have several questions that need to be answered in order to give you good advise. Please call me at my office, Maintenance Management and Pre-purchase evaluations are what we do and I have 35 years in Citations. As I am sure everyone will tell you do not go into this without talking to someone about your potential risks.

You can reach me by clicking on the AMTI Management Link below and calling the office.

Regards,

Mike

Ericzee,

I agree with Mike, you should speak with someone with the expertise to inform you of the risks that are involved. We have seen individuals make a purchase without doing a major inspection only to regret it later.

Hello, Ericzee

My name is Benjamin Kitchens I own & operate CPR Aviation Window Repair.
I have been friends with Mike for some time now and he has a lot of Knowledge on Citations. He can help save you a lot of money. You should always find someone with the experience to help put all of your worries at ease. One of the things you should have Inspected should be all of the windows. Sometimes I have looked at aircraft windows for new owners and find out that they should have looked and had them Inspected in a pre-buy. This could have saved them Thousands of dollars.Again I wish you the best.
Thank you for your time.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Ericzee,

I also don't recommend purchasing any aircraft without a prepurchase and don't let the broker tell you what you can and cannot do. I understand there are way more Citations out there for sale now. It's a buyers market. I'm sure that there is another Citation out there better than the one you're looking to buy. Don't get stuck in that situation.

Hello Everyone!

I hired Mike Klasing to do a pre-purchase inspection of the log books, maintenance to date and a visual inspection of the aircraft. I can't imagine a more thorough job than what Mike did for me.

I had enough confidence after working with Mike, that I purchased the aircraft and put it through a Phase V inspection at Standard Aero -who completed the previous one 50 hours prior. The total expense was about on budget and well within Mike's estimates. Mike even went back during the inspection and personally oversaw the repairs.

I can't say enough about Mike who has become quite a friend through the process.

Thanks all and Happy New Year!
